Outraged at a fatal ICE shooting in Houston but filled with “joy” over 6 people killed and 20 shot on July Fourth weekend in Chicago.

I am outraged by the tragic killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by federal immigration officers in Houston. Mr. Salgado Araujo was a dedicated husband and father who built a life for his family through decades of hard work.
No family should have to identify a loved one only by the sound of their voice crying for help. We must abolish ICE and finally build an immigration system rooted in dignity, due process and humanity.
As a Welcoming City, Chicago will continue to stand with our immigrant neighbors, families and communities.
